BOOK REVIEW: Hex Hall

Title: Hex Hall
Author: Rachel Hawkins
Series: Hex Hall (Book One)

Description:

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.

Review:

This book is beautiful! I laughed so much! Sophie's sarcasm is really awesome!
I somehow encouraged a relationship between Sophie and Archer in the beginning, but I didn't really liked him very much... He was a little hateful sometimes... But she liked him, so, well, I was for them to end up together. But then all hell broke loose...
I think he really liked her, even if he had a mission to complete.
Still, I'm not sure I really want him with her... There's still an other possibility... Cal!
SPOILER:
When Archer told Sophie about the betrothal, I wondered if she was betrothed too, and who her fiancè would be... Then the conversation with Cal hit me:

"So if you can heal with your touch, why are you working here as like, Hagrid, or whatever?"
He smiled, and I noticed his teeth were very white and very straight. What was with this place? Even the staff looked like Abercrombie & Fitch models. "Shouldn't you be out there healing really important people instead of here, pulling weeds and patching up teenagers?"
He shrugged. "When I was released from Hecate last year, I offered my services up to the Council. They decided my talents were most useful here, protecting their most precious treasures. You."
There was something so... I don't know, intimate, about the way he said it that I felt like I might burst out in giggles and start blushing. Then I caught myself. I already had one stupid crush. I wasn't about to start lusting after the groundskeeper, for God's sake.
Maybe he realized the way he'd said it was weird too, because he quickly cleared his throat. "I mean, all of you. You know, their kids."

So, I thought that there was really something weird about what he said and the way he said it... and I wondered if he was her betrothed and her father sent him there to watch her back and to get them to know each other...

  1. I'm wondering who the publisher of this book is. Some of them have very specific guidelines about what kind of spoilers you can put up.

Also, you might double check your spelling. I don't think you meant to swear.

Otherwise, great blog. I love it. Except that Jared Leto nonsense. You really shouldn't fall for a man that wears more make-up than you do. I learned that the hard way.

  2. Uhm...?? I think I'm lost... Where/when did I swear?

And, really sorry for my spelling but I'm not English and sometimes I can make some mistakes... Or maybe just type wrong on my mini laptop.

Other than that, I didn't check the publisher, because here in Italy this book has not been published, so I've got an ebook and when I made my review I wasn't really interested in giving information about the publisher. This blog is more for fun and to keep on check the books I read. For technical details there are more other websites providing them.

I have also to say: I haven't fallen for Jared Leto, but I just love his music, that is. Yes, he is a sexy and beautiful man, but mostly I like his music, and for me it really doesn't matter what he's wearing or how much makeup he's wearing. He could go around the world wearing a skirt and high heels, I will always think that his music is beautiful.

Anyway, thank you for the comment!

  3. I think he does go around the world in a skirt and high heels. But he's a pretty nice guy, tho. My cousin graduated from high school with him in Washington D.C. They still keep in touch some. Jared flew my cousin to Mexico City a couple years ago for a big show they had there. My cousin works at a film production company, and they were able to contract him for some of the footage and camera work. So, yeah, he's a cool guy.

  4. Wow! Really lucky! I have been able to go just to one of his shows here in Italy and it was so great, I think I can easily say that that day was one of the best of all my life! Even though his voice that night wasn't at its best, I was literally enthralled by the show, by him, by the band playing, by the music, by the people around me, singing after him, jumping... Wow!
I hope to have another chance to see and listen to him live, because it was an amazing experience!

PS: I am quite sure Jared would look great with skirt and high heels! He's got a really nice body! hahaha
